From the first Italian immigrants to come to San Francisco more than 150 years ago to the vibrant Little Italy community that exists today, North Beach is home to some of the city’s most historic watering holes. Ever since the city was founded in the rough and tumble days of the Gold Rush and Barbary Coast, our brave and thirsty people have been loyal to the polished bars where generations have gone to celebrate, to mourn, conspire and commiserate. These are the places that hold the true soul of a city. Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur, one of Italy’s finest exports, is helping to honor San Francisco’s Italian-American heritage with a bar crawl to some of the best pubs in town, led by Bar Star Dominic Venegas and Solerno Brand Ambassador Jackie Patterson. Begin the journey at the famous Buena Vista, a saloon founded in 1916 to service the many Italian fishermen and handlers who worked for the nearby Sardine Cannery, and the birthplace of the Irish Coffee. The crawl will continue down Columbus Avenue through the heart of North Beach visiting several other bars for a nip and a bit of history culminating with the taste of a new San Francisco classic at 15 Romolo. A picnic lunch will be provided from Molinari Delicatessen, which has been slicing up delicious Italian meats and cheeses since 1896 (since 1913 in its current location on Columbus Ave.) Refreshments will be provided at each location compliments of Solerno Blood Orange Liqueur.
